This is what the new Palau will look like

Renovation of the Palau de Gel

The Palau de Gel is a key facility for Canillo and for the whole country. After many years of service, the facilities require a comprehensive renovation to adapt to current user needs, improve comfort, safety, and energy efficiency, and ensure their viability for the coming years.

For this reason, the Comú de Canillo is promoting a full renovation and expansion project with an investment of more than €7.3 million. The aim is to transform the Palau de Gel into a more modern, functional, sustainable, and accessible space, capable of providing a better experience for both residents and visitors.

What will be done?

The works include a complete modernization of the building, covering both its structures and technical installations. Facades, insulation, waterproofing, and all electrical, climate control, ventilation, telecommunications, and fire protection systems will be renovated.

In addition, several areas will be reorganised and expanded to improve the services offered:

  • Expansion of the reception and shop.
  • Renovation and enlargement of the changing rooms.
  • Improvement of the water area.
  • Expansion of the gym, which will double its current size.
  • Creation of a new viewing bar.
  • Refurbishment of offices and multipurpose rooms.
  • Installation of climate control in the auditorium.
  • Construction of a new restaurant with views on the upper terrace.
  • Improved accessibility with new adapted access points and a lift on the main façade.

The project also includes measures to increase energy efficiency and reduce the building’s environmental impact, contributing to more sustainable resource management.

This renovation will consolidate the Palau de Gel as a multifunctional facility ready to host sports, leisure, social activities, and events throughout the year. It is a forward-looking investment that reinforces Canillo’s commitment to modern, accessible infrastructures adapted to the expectations of users, sports organisations, and visitors.

The works will begin on 1 June 2026 and will last approximately 15 months. During this period, the works will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption to users and ongoing activities as much as possible.
